Schmidt
Park, at the Southern California Logistics Airport (formerly
George Air Force Base) has been the site of our Shire anniversary
for the last several years, and we also hosted the 2005 Spring Crown
there. It has some distinct advantages. There is good
grass to camp and fight on throughout the entire park. There
are lots of trees to provide shade. While part of the City of
Victorville, it is at the north end of the City in the old air
force base (which is being developed as an industrial area) and we
have it all to ourselves. We have the use of the showers at
the gymnasium across the street and there is a location nearby
that we can use for archery. Parking is on a paved, though
neglected, adjacent parking lot that used to serve military dorms.
Because of
the isolated location of the park, we were able to obtain
permission to have a weekend event there and permission to have
alcohol in the park. So, this is not a dry site.
THE CITY OF
VICTORVILLE IS AGAIN BEING ALLOWED ALCOHOL AT HIGHLAND WAR. WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE KEEP
EVERYTHING RUNNING SMOOTHLY SO WE CAN CONTINUE THIS PRIVILEGE.
VIOLATIONS OF ALCOHOL REGULATIONS WILL NOT BE
TOLERATED.
Directions: Take I-15 to the North side of Victorville. Take
the "D" street exit, at the bottom of the off ramp, turn left
(North) onto National Trails Highway (also called "D" street). At
the first traffic signal turn left (West) on Air Expressway. Turn
right on George Blvd. (the 3rd signal) into Southern California
Logistics Airport (Old George AFB). George Blvd. bends left;
Schmidt Park is on the left. In case of late arrival, the gate on
George Blvd may be locked. Take Phantom West onto the base, It has
a stop light, then the second street on the right will be Mustang.
Follow Mustang all the way to the park. Beware of the deep v dips
in the road.
